Applications Open: Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust Awards

We are excited to announce that the April round for the Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust (WGWET) Awards is now openThese scholarships are a fantastic opportunity to support our wāhine in their academic journeys at the University of Waikato

While there are several awards available, including those for Doctoral and Masters study, we would like to highlight a specific opportunity for our undergraduate students.


Spotlight: Te Raranga Mātauranga Award

This prestigious award was established in 2004 to assist Wāhine Māori students as they complete their undergraduate studies.

  • Value: $1,250 and a certificate.

  • Eligibility: Applicants must be Māori women students enrolled (preferably full-time) in the final year of their first Bachelor’s degree.

  • Criteria: Selection is based on factors such as academic capability, contribution to the Māori community (internal or external to the University), or contribution to their specific program and division.


How to Apply

The application process for these awards varies by level:

  • Postgraduate (Masters & Doctoral): Information and applications can be accessed directly through the WGWET website.

  • Undergraduate (Te Raranga Mātauranga): These awards are division-nominated, meaning students cannot apply individuallyEach division may nominate up to two candidates.

Te Piringa Students: If you are a Wāhine Māori in your final year and wish to be considered for a nomination, please email Leilani Tuala-Warren to express your interest.


Important Dates & Deadlines

  • Closing Date: All nominations and applications must be submitted by 30 April.

  • Notification: Winners will be informed of the committee's decision in June.
